The U.S. Supreme Court has ruled in a 5-4 vote that parts of the Voting Rights Act are invalid because Congress is relying on decades old racial information. The Voting Rights Act was enacted by Congress in 1965 to address problems in voting districts with a history of voter discrimination against minorities, particularly blacks in the deep south.
